Malachite (pronounced Mala-kite)
is, according to the Concise Oxford Dictionary:
'a bright green mineral of hydrous copper carbonate, taking a
high polish...
The
background to this website is a picture of malachite; its use in
decoration mirrored the birth and growth of the cinema from the beginning
of the twentieth century through the art deco period of the
nineteen-twenties until the 'talkies' took over the town in the
nineteen-thirties. Cinema's classic period.
We like to think that our films and television
programmes are highly polished classics too, but we really chose
the name because of Managing Director Charles Mapleston's lifelong
fascination with rocks and mineralogy, inspired by reading Arthur
Ransome's 'Swallows & Amazons' adventure Pigeon Post at the
age of 12!
